Removing and installing, sealing or replacing
oil sump (M57)
Caution!
When working on the oil, coolant or fuel circuit, you must
protect the alternator against contamination.
Cover alternator with suitable materials.
Failure to comply with this procedure may result in an
alternator malfunction.
Remove front axle differential.
Drain engine oil.
Remove A/C compressor belt tensioner.
Release screw (1).
Detach positive battery lead (2) on retaining clip (3).
Detach line from oil level sensor on oil dipstick guide tube (4).
Remove guide tube (4) with oil dipstick.
Installation:
Replace sealing ring.
Apply a thin coat of antiseize agent to sealing ring prior to
installation.
