Function of the adjustment feature:

The sensor diaphragm spring is hooked into the clutch cover on the outside and forms the pivot bearing for the main
diaphragm spring with its inner tabs.

The retaining force of the sensor diaphragm spring is dimensioned so that the retaining force is somewhat greater
than the desired release force. As long as the release force is less than the retaining force of the sensor diaphragm
spring, the pivot bearing of the main diaphragm spring remains at the same location during release.

However, if the release force is increased due to clutch disc wear, the retaining force of the sensor diaphragm spring
is exceeded and the pivot bearing shifts exactly as much toward the flywheel as is necessary to reduce the release
force to the retaining force of the sensor diaphragm spring again. A gap results between the main diaphragm spring
and the clutch cover, which is compensated for with spring-loaded adjustment wedges.

Due to the centrifugal force, the adjustment wedges are not arranged radially, but instead in the circumferential
direction.

Observe the following during repair work:

To ensure reliable operation of the SAC, the adjustment wedges must be reset to the new position before installing
the SAC,

please refer to Repair Instructions 21 21 500.
