About the Regal
The Regal has been Buick's premium mid-size car since 1973, at first the counterpart of the Pontiac Grand Prix and Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. The rear-drive second generation spawned the turbocharged Grand National and GNX, and the third (1988) moved to front-wheel drive. It returned for 2011 as a version of the Opel Insignia.
What these manuals cover
- 1982–1986: (rear-wheel drive) the 3.8 V6 and its turbo, the 4.1 V6, the 5.0 V8 and the 4.3 and 5.7 diesels
- 1988–1998: (front-wheel drive) the 2.8, 3.1 and 3.8-litre V6s, including the supercharged 3.8
- 2011: the 2.0-litre turbo four
Tip: the front-drive Regal shares its W platform with the Chevrolet Lumina and Pontiac Grand Prix.
