Engine Control Module: Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
Inputs

The PCM/ECM input selection provides testing of inputs to the PCM/ECM. The input status is shown on the display as HI or LO. The input test status is
shown as 0 until the PCM/ECM sees a transition in the state of the switch, then 0 will change to an X to indicate that the test passed.

The following is a list of PCM/ECM inputs:

EI70

This test detects the open and close of the cruise control brake switch at terminal C2 of the PCM/ECM.

HI means that the brake switch is closed and that the PCM/ECM has 12 volts at the cruise brake switch input (cruise switch must be ON).

LOmeans that the brake switch is open and that the PCM/ECM has 0 volts at the input.

X means that the brake pedal has been depressed and a change in switch state has been detected.

EI71

This test detects the open and close of the VCC brake switch at terminal C4 of the PCM/ECM.

HI means that the brake switch is closed and that the PCM/ECM has 12 volts at the VCC brake switch input.

LOmeans that the brake switch is open and that the PCM/ECM has 0 volts at the input.

X means that the brake pedal has been depressed and a change in switch state has been detected.

EI72

This test detects the open and close of the ISC nose switch at terminal A7 of the PCM/ECM.

HI means that the throttle switch is open and that the PCM/ECM has 5 volts at the throttle switch input.

LOmeans that the throttle switch is closed and that the PCM/ECM has 0 volts at the input.

X means that the throttle pedal has been depressed and a change in switch state has been detected.

EI79

Not valid.

EI82

This test detects the open and close of the cruise switch mounted on the turn signal lever at terminal D2 of the PCM/ECM. To activate this test,
place the switch in the ON position.

HI means that the on/off switch is ON and that the PCM/ECM has 12 volts at the cruise enable input.

LOmeans that the on/off switch is OFF and that the PCM/ECM has 0 volts at the cruise control input.

X means that the on/off switch has been turned on or off and a change in switch state has been detected.

EI83

This test detects the close of the set-coast switch mounted on the turn signal lever at terminal D8 of the PCM/ECM. To activate this test,
depress the SET/COAST button.

HI means that the set/coast button is closed (depressed) and that the PCM/ECM has 12 volts at the set/coast input.

LOmeans that the set/coast button is open and that the PCM/ECM has 0 volts at the set/coast input.

X means that the set/coast switch has been depressed and a change in switch state has been detected.

EI84

This test detects the close of the resume/accel switch mounted on the turn signal lever at terminal C3 of the PCM/ECM. To activate this test,
slide the  resume/accel switch.

HI means that the resume/accel switch is closed (pushed) and that the PCM/ECM has 12 volts at the resume/accel input.

LOmeans that the resume/accel button is open and that the PCM/ECM has 0 volts at the resume/accel input.

X means that the resume/accel switch has been depressed and a change in switch state has been detected.
