Camshaft Gear/Sprocket: Service and Repair

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT  

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 
2. Remove the intake air resonator.
3. Remove the front timing belt cover. 
4. Remove the timing belt. 
5. As a precaution, rotate the crankshaft counterclockwise to the 60° BTDC position to prevent valve/piston contact.

6. Insert the Camshaft Gear Locking Tools into the appropriate camshaft gears to hold the gears in place while removing the bolt.
7. Remove the camshaft gear bolt.
8. Remove the camshaft gear. 

INSTALL OR CONNECT 

NOTE: Install the numbered camshaft gear slots on the correct camshaft alignment pins, so that the reference marks (1, 2, 3, and 4) are aligned
with the notches on the rear timing belt cover.

1. Install the camshaft gear.

CAUTION: Use a new camshaft gear bolt. The required tightening method will stretch the bolt, therefore the bolt is not reusable.
