Lifter / Lash Adjuster: Service and Repair

J 35268-A Camshaft/Front Main Seal Installer

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT 

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the intake plenum. See Powertrain Management.
3. Remove the intake manifold. 
4. Remove the relevant valve cover. 
5. Remove the intake air resonator. 
6. Remove the front timing belt cover. 
7. Remove the timing belt. 
8. Remove the relevant camshaft gear(s). 
9. Remove the relevant camshaft(s) with seal attached.

10. Remove the lifter(s) (1). Place the lifter(s) in a rack sequentially so they can be reinstalled in their original order if the lifter(s) is to be reused.

INSTALL OR CONNECT 

1. Lubricate the lifter(s) (1) with prelude, GM P/N 12345501 or equivalent.
2. Install the lifter(s) in their original position if not replaced.
3. Install the relevant camshaft(s).
4. Coat the lip of the camshaft seal with a small amount of chassis grease, GM P/N 1052497 or equivalent, to aid in installation.
5. Use the Camshaft/Front Main Seal Installer to tap the seal into place.
6. Ensure the camshaft seal is fully and evenly seated.
7. Install the relevant camshaft gear(s). 
8. Install the timing belt and adjust the timing belt. 
9. Install the front timing belt cover. 

10. Install the intake air resonator. 
11. Install the relevant valve cover. 
12. Install the intake manifold. 
13. Install the intake plenum. See Powertrain Management.
14. Reconnect the negative battery cable and reprogram the applicable accessories.
