SPECIAL POLICY
SUBJECT:
02018 - SPECIAL POLICY ADJUSTMENT - CAM DRIVE IDLER AND TENSIONER PULLEYS, AND WATER PUMP
MODELS:
1997 AND 1998 CADILLAC CATERA
CONDITION
Some owners of 1997 and 1998 Cadillac Catera model vehicles equipped with a 3.0L (RPO L81 - VIN CODE R) V-6 engine may experience failures of
the cam drive timing belt, idler and tensioner pulleys and/or water pump. This condition may result in engine damage or failure.
SPECIAL POLICY ADJUSTMENT
This special policy covers the condition described above for a period of 7 years or 100,000 miles (160,000 km), whichever occurs first, from the date the
vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership. If the condition occurs, repairs needed to correct it will be made at no charge to the
customer.
For vehicles covered by Vehicle Service Contracts, all eligible claims with repair orders on or after May 31, 2002 are covered by this special policy and
must be submitted using the labor operation codes provided with this bulletin. Claims with repair orders prior to May 31, 2002 must be submitted to the
Service Contract provider.
VEHICLES INVOLVED
Involved are all 1997 and 1998 Cadillac Catera model vehicles equipped with a 3.0L (RPO L81 - VIN CODE R) V-6 engine. Beginning and ending
VINs are shown.
PARTS INFORMATION
Parts required to complete this special policy are to be obtained from General Motors Service Parts Operations (GMPSO).
CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
Customers will be notified of this special policy on their vehicles by General Motors (see copy of typical customer letter shown in this bulletin - actual
divisional letter may vary slightly).
