Air Bag Disarming and Arming
Disabling the SIR System
1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
2. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK.
3. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
4. Wait one minute until the energy reserve capacitors in the inflatable restraint Sensing and Diagnostic and Seat Belt Pretensioner Module (SDM)
have discharged.
5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
If any major electrical or mechanical work, including welding, painting or body panel replacement, must be performed on the vehicle, you must first
disconnect the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic and seat belt pretensioner module (SDM) harness connector from the SDM. Refer to Inflatable
Restraint Sensing and Diagnosis and Seat Belt Pretioner Module under Air Bag Control Module and / or Seat Belt Control Module.
Enabling the SIR System
1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
2. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK.
3. Connect the negative battery cable.
4. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position while staying well away from the inflator modules.
5. Verify that the AIR BAG warning lamp operates in accordance with the SIR Diagnostic System Check
6. Perform the SIR Diagnostic System Check under Testing and Inspection if the AIR BAG warning lamp does not operate as described.
