Parking Brake Shoe: Service and Repair

Parking Brake Shoe Replacement

Removal Procedure
Warning:
 Refer to Brake Dust Warning   (See: Service Precautions/Technician Safety Information/Brake Dust Warning).

1. Block the rear drive wheels.
2. Release the park brake lever, if equipped.
3. Release the electronic park brake cable tension, if equipped. Refer to Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Disabling (Electric Park Brake)   (See:

Parking Brake Cable/Service and Repair/Procedures/Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Disabling (Electric Park Brake)).

4. Turn the ignition to the OFF position.
5. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle   (See: Maintenance/Vehicle Lifting/Service and Repair).
6. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation   (See: Maintenance/Wheels and Tires/Service and Repair

).

7. Remove the rear brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (JE5, J55)   (See: Disc Brake System/Brake Rotor/Disc/Service and

Repair/Removal and Replacement/Rear Brake Rotor Replacement)Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (J56)   (See: Disc Brake System/Brake

8. Remove the park brake shoe pins (1) by compressing the hold down springs (2) and rotating the spring 1/4 turn.
