Rear Compartment Lid - High Lifting Effort
File in Section: 10 - Body
Bulletin No.: 53-15-15
Date: August, 1995
Subject:
High Effort Required to Lift Rear Compartment Lid (Adjust/Modify Existing Torque Rods)
Models:
1995 Cadillac Concours, DeVille
CONDITION
Some owners may comment on the high effort required to lift the rear compartment lid.
CAUSE
Late design changes moved the torque rods from the inboard side of the hinge assembly to the outboard side of the hinge assembly. The change in design
introduces an interference of the torque rod with the rear shelf panel.
CORRECTION
Some vehicles may require increased torque to lift the rear compartment lid. In some cases, this will require the torque rod be placed in the uppermost
"notch" on the hinge assembly. However, in most cases, the torque rod cannot be adjusted to the upper notch due to an interference with the rear shelf
panel.
Use new torque rod adjustment tool, J 41358-1A, and modify torque rods if necessary. The torque rod adjustment tool (J 39384-1) called out in Section
10-8 of the Service Manual can no longer be used since it will also interfere with the rear shelf panel.
1.
Position torque rod adjustment tool, J 41358-1A, to the outboard side of torque rod (see Figure 1). Attempt to adjust torque rods. If torque rod
comes in contact with the rear shelf panel, it will be necessary to modify the torque rod.
