DIESEL INJECTION PUMP GOVERNOR WEIGHT RETAINER

MODELS AFFECTED: 1978-1984 MODELS

A new governor weight retainer assembly, referred to as an "Elastomer Insert Drive" (EID) will be used on 1985 model injection pumps. This drive
mechanism consists of six viton rubber inserts in a self-contained drive mechanism. It is interchangeable with the rings used on 1978 through 1984
model diesel injection pumps.

You should use the new EID assembly when the repair to one of these 1978-1984 pumps involves removal of the governor weight retainer assembly. The
EID replaces the current governor weight retainer assembly and pelethane ring, and any technician trained to install a governor weight retainer ring can
install an EID. You should never clean or soak the EID in a caustic solution. If necessary to clean, use diesel fuel or calibrating fluid only. The time
allowance for the repair is unchanged, although the actual labor time is slightly less.

It is imperative that pumps reworked with the EID assembly be identified to assist you in future diagnosis if a pump problem is encountered. It is
extremely difficult to tell the difference between the drives once they are installed in the pump. A metal tag with the letter "E" is supplied in the package.
Install this metal tag under the cover screw on the right front cover of the pump. The tag should be placed between the flat washer and the star washer.
The star washer should go next to the cover.

Pumps that are within the 12 month/12,000 mile warranty period that are sent to a Roosa Master Dealer will not have the new EID installed unless it is
requested. When requested, the added cost of the EID will be billed to the dealer. Roosa Master Dealers, in addition to the metal tag, will also stamp the
body of the pump with the letter "E". This identification will be located on top of the wrench boss on the front of the pump.
