Control Arm: Service and Repair

    Replace one control arm at a time as axle assembly may slip sideways, making installation difficult.

LOWER CONTROL ARMS
Eldorado & Seville

1.

Raise and support rear of vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assembly.

2.

Remove stabilizer bar as described under Stabilizer Bar, Replace.

3.

Disconnect brake line bracket from control arm, then remove caliper assembly.

4.

Mark a wheel stud and a corresponding point on the rotor for alignment, then remove rotor.

5.

If lefthand control arm is to be removed, disconnect automatic level control link from ball pivot on control arm.

6.

Using a suitable jack, support control arm.

7.

Disconnect air line from shock absorber, then disconnect shock absorber from upper and lower mountings and remove shock absorber.

8.

Carefully lower the control arm until spring tension is relieved, then remove spring and insulator.

9.

Remove two bolts mounting control arm to frame and remove control arm, Fig. 1.

10.

Reverse procedure to install. Torque control arm to frame mounting bolts to 75 ft. lbs.
