This engine uses valve rotators, Fig. 18. The rotator operates on a sprag clutch principle utilizing the collapsing action of a coil spring to give rotation
to the rotor body which turns the valve.
Some 1982-83 V8-350 diesel engines may experience valve train ticking noise and/or exhaust backfire. This condition may be caused by
premature wear of the rocker arm pivots. Two types of rocker arm pivots were used on these engines. Type 1 pivot assemblies, Fig. 19, are the
only ones showing premature wear. It is therefore recommended that only Type 2 pivot assemblies, Fig. 20, be used when servicing the engine
