SUBJECT:
LOCKING WHEEL NUTS
MODELS AFFECTED: ALL MODELS WITH ALUMINUM WHEELS AND LOCKING WHEEL NUTS
All Cadillacs (except Cimarrons) equipped with aluminum wheels use a solid locking wheel nut which is heavier than the standard, non-locking wheel
nut. In some instances, the heavier locking wheel nut may create a slight wheel imbalance condition that cannot be corrected with off-car balance
techniques.
If this condition is encountered, install the locking wheel nut in the position nearest the valve stem and add a 1/2 ounce balance weight 180~ opposite the
locking nut. For improved appearance, the balance weight should be installed on the inboard side of the wheel. This procedure will improve the on-car
balance by compensating for the heavier locking wheel nut.
When rotating tires, always reinstall the locking nut nearest the tire valve stem so that it remains opposite the 1/2 ounce balance weight.
