GROUP 6C - ENGINE FUEL - MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS
1.
DFI/EFI FUEL INJECTOR ELECTRICAL DAMAGE
DFI/EFI fuel injectors may be permanently damaged when subjected to abnormal current loads during diagnosis. While the ECM will not allow
enough current to damage the injector during vehicle operation, proper procedures must be followed to prevent damage during diagnosis. The
following diagnostic procedures should be used when an improper operation of the injector is suspected:
1.
On 1980 DEFI or 1982-1983 DFI-equipped vehicles, reference chart #6 in the DEFI/DFI section of the Cadillac Service Information
Manual for the appropriate year.
2.
On 1981 DFI vehicles, refer to chart #6 in the Digital Fuel Injection and Computer Command Control Diagnosis Supplement Manual.
3.
On 2.0L EFI-equipped vehicles, reference chart #4 on page 6E2-28 of the 1983 Cimarron Service Information Manual.
NOTICE:
Do not apply full battery voltage directly across the injector terminals, full battery voltage applied across the injector will
destroy the coil within a half a second.
2.
1982 CIMARRON CHOKE LIGHT REMAINS ON
Owners of 1982 Cimarrons may encounter the instrument panel choke light remaining on for some period of time after the engine is
started.
This condition may be caused by a choke heater relay that has too low a shut-off voltage and remains energized, allowing the light to
stay on. Replacement of the relay with the following GMWDD service part will correct this condition.

Continuous operation of the choke light may also be caused by an open choke heater fuse or insufficient generator voltage at terminal 1,
during fast idle. The above conditions are detailed on page 8A-37 of the 1982 Cimarron Service Manual and should not be overlooked
when diagnosing this condition.
