Check for an improperly seated or missing retaining ring (Figure 1, Item 225). Verify that the retaining ring is installed with the rounded edge
of the ring facing the valve stop (item 226). Refer to Figure 2.

Verify that converter clutch valve (item 227) and valve bore are free of nicks or burrs.

Check for missing, broken or damaged converter clutch valve springs (outer spring item 228 and inner spring item 229).

Verify that the retaining ring groove is not too shallow for the ring to seat, preventing adequate retention.
Refer to the appropriate Service Information Manual for removal and installation procedures.
