Audible Warning Device: Description and Operation
The CHIME MODULE sounds at different frequencies to alert the driver to one of three conditions. A low frequency chime (50 pulses/minute)
indicates that the driver has not fastened his safety belt prior to turning the ignition switch to "RUN." A medium frequency chime (150 pulses/minute)
indicates that the ignition key has not been removed after the ignition switch has been turned to "OFF" and the LH front door has been opened, A high
frequency chime (300 pulses/minute) indicates that the LIGHT SWITCH remains in the "PARK" or "HEAD" position after the ignition switch has been
turned to "OFF."
The system consists of a CHIME MODULE, a "FASTEN BELTS" Warning Indicator, a SAFETY BELT BUCKLE SWITCH, an IGNITION KEY
WARNING SWITCH, the LIGHT SWITCH and the LH FRONT DOOR JAMB SWITCH. The CHIME MODULE is powered at terminal B1 by battery
voltage from the Ltr Fuse and is permanently grounded through terminal B2 at G201. The CHIME MODULE also receives battery voltage at terminal
D2 from the Ga-Trans Fuse, which acts as an "ignition on" input, whenever the ignition switch is turned to "RUN," "BULB TEST" or "START." The
"ignition on" input, in addition to signals from the other switches listed, provides the CHIME MODULE with the information required for system
operation.
Safety Belt Warning
The Safety Belt Warning sounds when the CHIME MODULE detects 12 volts at terminal D2 and no ground at terminal A2. These two signals inform
the CHIME MODULE that the ignition switch has been turned to "RUN" and the driver's safety belt has not been buckled. In response to these signals,
the CHIME MODULE applies 12 volts through terminal C2 to the "FASTEN BELTS" Warning Indicator and emits a low-frequency chime for four to
eight seconds. The indicator is powered on by the CHIME MODULE for 60-90 seconds.
Ignition Key Warning
The Ignition Key Warning sounds when the CHIME MODULE detects 0 volts at terminal D2 and a ground at terminal C1. These two signals inform
the CHIME MODULE that the ignition switch has been turn "OFF," the ignition key is in the ignition switch and the LH front door is open. In response
to these signals, the CHIME MODULE emits a medium-frequency chime, reminding the driver to remove his ignition key from the ignition switch.
Headlight Warning
The Headlight Warning sounds when the CHIME MODULE detects 0 volts at terminal A1 and 0 volts at terminal D2. These two signals inform the
Chime Module that the Light Switch has been left in "PARK" or "HEAD" and the Ignition switch has been turned to "OFF." In response to these
signals, the CHIME MODULE emits a high-frequency chime, reminding the driver to push the Light Switch to "OFF."
