Fuel Rail: Description and Operation
Fuel Rail Assembly
The fuel rail assembly consists of four subassemblies:

The front rail, which delivers fuel to the odd numbered cylinders (1,3,5,7).

The rear rail, which delivers fuel to the even numbered cylinders (2,4,6,8).
^
The pressure regulator assembly.
^
Eight individual fuel injectors.
The fuel rail assembly is mounted on the intake manifold and distributes fuel to each cylinder through the individual injectors.
Fuel is delivered from the fuel pump through the fuel feed line to the inlet port of the fuel rail assembly at the rear rail. From the fuel feed inlet, the fuel
is directed to both fuel rails (the front rail being fed through a crossover tube). Fuel in each rail flows through the main feed passage in the end of each
rail to the main supply conduit, supplying fuel at the same pressure to each of the injectors. Fuel in excess of injector needs flows back (via a return tube
from the front rail) through the pressure regulator assembly to the outlet port of the fuel rail. Fuel then flows through the chassis fuel return line to the
fuel tank to begin the cycle again.
