Camshaft: Service and Repair

J 5590 Crankshaft Sprocket Installer, or equivalent
1. Coat the camshaft lobes and journals with a high viscosity oil containing zinc GM P/N 1052367 or equivalent.
2. Install two or three 5/118 bolts 10125 mm (5 inch) long into the camshaft threaded holes. Use these bolts as a handle for the camshaft.
3. Install the camshaft to the engine. Handle the camshaft carefully to prevent damage to the camshaft bearings.
4. Install the camshaft retainer plate and bolts.
5. Lower the engine.
6. Install the engine mount through-bolts.

Tighten the through-bolts to 59 Nm (44 ft. lbs.).
7. Install crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring.
8. Install the crankshaft sprocket (if removed). Use the J 6690. Make sure the timing mark faces outside.
NOTE: Line up the timing marks on the camshaft sprocket and crankshaft sprocket.
