Camshaft: Service and Repair
Replacement, Engine Overhaul

REMOVAL

1. Remove the camshaft retainer bolts and retainer.

NOTE:  All camshaft journals are the same diameter, so care must be used in removing the camshaft to avoid damage to the bearings.

2. Remove the camshaft.

a. Install the three 5/16-18 x 4.0 inch bolts in the camshaft front bolt holes.
b. Carefully rotate and pull the camshaft out of the bearings.

INSTALLATION

1. Coat the following components with engine oil supplement GM P/N 1052367 or the equivalent:

a. The camshaft lobes
b. The camshaft bearing journals 

NOTE:  Use care when you Install the camshaft. All bearings are of equal diameter.

2. Install the three 5/16-18 x 4.0 inch bolts in the camshaft front bolt holes.
3. Install the camshaft.
4. Remove the three bolts from the front of the camshaft.
5. Install the camshaft retainer.
6. Install the bolts.

Tighten the camshaft retainer bolts to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).
