Throttle Shaft Seal, Replace

1. Disconnect battery ground cables, then remove the air cleaner and crossover, and install screened covers, J-26996-2 or equivalent.
2. Disconnect injection pump fuel solenoid wire and fuel return line. On 1981 and 1983---84 models, disconnect housing pressure cold advance

(HPCA) wires, Fig. 63.

3. On 1980 models, remove the transmission vacuum regulator valve. On 1981 and 1983---84 models, scribe a line on the vacuum regulator valve

and pump body to aid in reassembly, and remove the vacuum regulator. Refer to "Transmission Vacuum Regulator Valve, Replace."

4. Remove the throttle rod, return spring and throttle cable bracket.
5. Position tool J-29601 over throttle shaft with tool slots engaging pin. Place the tool spring clip over the throttle shaft advance cam and tighten the

wing nut, Fig. 75. Without loosening the wing nut, pull tool from throttle shaft. This will maintain proper alignment during reassembly. Drive pin
from throttle shaft, loosen the clamp screw and remove the throttle shaft advance cam and fiber washer.

6. Remove any burrs on throttle shaft with shaft still installed in pump.
7. Thoroughly clean the injection pump cover, the upper portion of the pump and the throttle shaft and guide stud area. Place shop towels in the

engine valley to catch spilled fuel.
