Brake Shoe: Service and Repair
CAUTION: Original equipment, or equivalent replacement rear brake shoe material is recommended to maintain the balance between front and rear
brake performance. Brake parts have been carefully selected to provide the proper brake balance for the purposes of stopping distance and control over
the full range of operating conditions. Installation of front or rear lining material with performance different from that of original equipment, or
equivalent replacement parts, can change the intended brake balance of this vehicle.
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Raise the vehicle and support it with safety stands.
2. The tire and wheel.
3. Install the pin to the park brake lever.
4. The rear brake drum from the vehicle.
5. The rear brake shoe retaining springs.
6. The hold-down springs.
7. The hold-down pins.
8. The shoe guide.
9. The rear brake shoe actuator and spring.
10. The rear brake shoe actuator link.
11. The rear parking brake lever strut and spring.
12. The rear brake shoe adjuster spring.
13. The rear brake shoe adjuster.
14. The rear brake shoes.
15. Inspect:

All of the parts for discoloration due to heat or stress. Replace as needed.

All of the parts for signs of wear Replace as needed.
^
The rear wheel cylinder for signs of leakage.
^
The rear brake drum for scoring and machining tolerance.
