55. Disconnect the deployment harness from the power source and twist the wire ends together.
56. Continue the same process with the remaining deployment harnesses that are available.
57. Remove the drop cloth from the vehicle.
58. Disconnect all harnesses from the vehicle.
59. Discard the harnesses.
60. Scrap the vehicle in the same manner as a non-SIR equipped vehicle.
61. If one or more of the inflator modules did not deploy, perform the following steps to remove the undeployed modules from the vehicle:

If the I/P module did not deploy, refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement.

If the side impact module - LF did not deploy, refer to Inflatable Restraint Side Impact Module Replacement - Front.
62. Call the Technical Assistance Group for further assistance.

The inflator module can be deployed inside or outside of the vehicle. The method used depends upon the final disposition of the vehicle. Review the
deployment procedures in order to determine which will work best in a given situation.
Steering Wheel Module Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
CAUTION:

A deployed dual stage inflator module will look the same whether one or both stages were used. Always assume a deployed dual stage
inflator module has an active stage 2. Improper handling or servicing can activate the inflator module and cause personal injury.

Refer to SIR Inflator Module Handling and Storage Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3.
2. If equipped with steering column tilt, adjust the steering wheel to the lowest position.
3. The back side of steering wheel has 4 openings for access to the driver supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) module retainers. Turn the steering
wheel until 2 of the openings are accessible, straight above the steering column.
4. Adjust and install the J 44298 into the top 2 openings.
IMPORTANT: The driver air bag removal tool must be seated correctly to function.
5. Push the handle towards the instrument panel to release both module mounting posts from the retainer.
6. Repeat this procedure for the remaining openings.
