from stub shaft could result in damage to the steering gear and/or intermediate shaft. This damage could result in the loss of steering control.

Remove power steering line retaining clips, Fig. 15.
4.
Disconnect power steering lines at gear from pump.
5.
Raise and support vehicle, then remove both front tire and wheel assemblies.
6.
Remove cotter pin and castellated nut at tie rod end and remove tie rod ends from steering knuckle, Fig. 16.
7.
Remove remaining bracket and clips on crossmember, then support body with jack stands to allow lowering of the frame.
8.
Remove rear frame mounting bolts as shown in Fig. 17.
9.
Lower rear of frame up to five inches. Do not lower rear of frame too far as damage to engine components nearest the engine cowl could
result.
10.
Remove rack and pinion mounting bolts and nuts, then remove rack and pinion assembly through left wheel opening.
11.
Reverse procedure to install.
