Installing Rack
3. Steering rack into housing:
A. Apply ample amounts of manual steering gear lubricant over the entire toothed surface of the rack.
B. Install rack into housing in direction shown.
4. Pinion into housing:
A. Apply ample amounts of manual steering gear lubricant to pinion gears, needle bearings and steering pinion oil seal lip.
B. Install pinion bearing plug using J 41378; apply GM P/N 12346004, or equivalent, to pinion bearing plug threads.
Installing Steering Pinion Seal
5. New steering pinion sea! to the gear housing.
Tighten

Pinion bearing plug to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.).
6. Steering rack plunger:
A. Apply a light coating of manual steering gear lubricant to the sliding surface of the plunger.
B. Install plunger, spring and damper screw.
