Brake Pedal Assy: Testing and Inspection
Brake Pedal Travel
BRAKE PEDAL HEIGHT
1. Measure the brake pedal height from the floor to the center of the brake pedal. Ensure that the brake pedal height is within 148.6-158.6 mm
(5.85-6.244 in). If the brake pedal height is not within the specifications, adjust brake pedal height using the following procedure:
CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement.
4. Remove the left side ventilation duct.
5. Remove the return spring for the brake pedal.
6. Loosen the locknut for the stoplamp switch (2).
7. Loosen the pushrod locknut (1).
8. Adjust the brake pedal travel by turning the pushrod until the brake pedal travel is within specifications.

Tighten the pushrod locknut (1) to 26 Nm (19 ft. lbs.).
9. Adjust the stoplamp switch (2) clearance. Refer to Stoplamp Switch Adjustment.
10. Install the return spring for the brake pedal.
11. Install the left side ventilation duct.
12. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement.
13. Connect the negative battery cable.
BRAKE PEDAL FREE PLAY
1. Depress the brake pedal several times until there is no more vacuum left in the booster.
2. Push in the pedal by hand to the beginning of the resistance.
