3. Measure the distance the pedal moves to the beginning of the resistance. If the brake pedal free play is 1-6 mm (0.04-0.24 in), then the operation
is normal. If the brake pedal free play does not meet the specification, then check the stoplamp switch clearance. Refer to Stoplamp Switch
Adjustment.

J 28662 Brake Pedal Effort Gauge
1. Ensure the parking brake is released.
2. Start the engine.
3. Using the J 28662, depress the brake pedal with 490 N (110 lb) of force.
4. Measure the distance between the surface of the brake pedal and the asphalt sheet. If the brake pedal reserve distance is more than 85 mm (3.35
in), the operation is normal. If the brake pedal reserve distance does not meet the specification, troubleshoot the brake system. Refer to Hydraulic
