Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION:  Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the transmission assembly.

Removal for 4 speed automatic transmission in Transmission.

3. If equipped with a manual transmission, remove the clutch and pressure plate. 
4. Remove the flywheel from the crankshaft.

IMPORTANT:  To protect the crankshaft from damage, wrap the tip of the screwdriver with tape.

5. Use a screwdriver and pry out the crankshaft rear oil seal.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

1. Apply multi-purpose grease to the new crankshaft rear oil seal lip.

IMPORTANT:  Tap the oil seal in until its surface is flush with the crankshaft rear oil seal retainer edge.
