Clutch Release Bearing: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

1. Remove the manual transaxle from the vehicle. Refer to Transmission Replacement.
2. Remove the clutch release bearing and the clutch release fork at the same time.
3. Remove the clutch release bearing from the clutch release fork.
4. Clean the clutch release bearing using a clean dry solvent free cloth.

IMPORTANT:   Do not clean the clutch release bearing using degreaser or solvents. Cleaning the clutch release bearing using degreaser or
solvents damages the bearing seals.

5. Inspect the clutch release bearing for external damage and smooth rotation. Replace the clutch release bearing for the following conditions:

The bearings do not operate smoothly.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

1. Lubricate the clutch release bearing using a thin coat of wheel bearing grease of GM P/N 1051344 (or equivalent).
2. Install the clutch release bearing to the clutch release fork.
3. Install the clutch release bearing and the clutch release fork assembly onto the transaxle assembly.
4. Install the transaxle assembly into the vehicle. Refer to Transmission Replacement.
