Inspect steering wheel for play and rattle with the wheels in a straight-ahead position and with the vehicle on level ground. Steering wheel play (A)
should be 10 to 30 mm (0.40 to 1.20 inch).
If play is not within specification, inspect for the following. If any part is found to be defective, replace it.

Lower ball joint for wear.

Steering shaft joint for wear.
^
Idler arm bushing for damage or wear.
^
Loosely installed parts.
^
Steering gear sector shaft for wear.
