Steering Column
Inspections Required After an Accident - Standard Column
1. Vehicles involved in accidents resulting in frame damage, sheet metal damage, steering column impact, or SIR deployment may also have a
damaged or misaligned steering column. Inspect the following components for damage. Repair or replace as necessary.

The steering shaft

The steering shaft coupling
-
The lower steering shaft
2. Inspect the following components for damage. Repair or replace as necessary.

The steering gear (2)
-
The power steering pump (1)
-
The power steering fluid reservoir (3)
-
The steering gear boots
-
The inner tie rods
-
The outer tie rods
-
The steering wheel
3. Remove the steering column trim covers.
4. Inspect the steering column support bracket.
5. If any components impacted the steering column, remove the steering column.
6. Inspect the steering column jacket and the steering column lower seal. Measure the length of the steering column.
