10. Use the dial calipers in order to measure the free length of the flow control valve spring (1).

Measurement
The free length of the spring should be within 19.0 - 22.0 mm (0.748 - 0.866 inch).

11. If the valve spring does not fall within the specifications, replace the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement.

Power Steering Pump Assemble

1. Apply wheel bearing lubricant, GM P/N 1051344, or equivalent, to the oil seal lip.
2. Apply DEXRON(R) - III Automatic Transmission Fluid, GM P/N 12346143, or equivalent, to the sliding surface of the shaft (1).
3. Insert the pulley's shaft from the oil seal side of the pump body (2).

4. Apply DEXRON(R) - III Automatic Transmission Fluid, GM P/N 12346143, or equivalent, to the O-rings and fit the O-rings (1,2) to the pump

body.
