Reassembly
1.
Install new extension housing seal.
2.
Install new extension and retainer with a .020 gauging shim.
NOTE:
Add a bead of Mopar RTV Sealer to the extension housing groove as shown in Figure 1.
3.
Install tool #L-4436 in the differential through the extension.
4.
Install dial indicator and measure end play.
5.
Remove retainer and install proper shim for preload.
6.
Install tool #L-4436 in left side of differential through retainer.
7.
Use a torque wrench and a long (18"-20") extension to measure the turning torque of the differential. Refer to the service manual shim chart for
proper shim selection to obtain a 5 to 8 inch pound torque reading.
8.
Install the differential cover.
9.
Install the transfer shaft, snap ring, and retainer.
10.
Install the governor assembly.
11.
Install the governor support retainer.
12.
Install the transfer gear, shim, and retaining nut.
13.
Install the transaxle and cover.
