Drive Belt: Procedures
Serpentine Accessory Drive Belt - Checking Tension
CHECKING ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT TENSION
WARNING: Do not check belt tension with engine running.
1. Connect tool 8371 to the scan tool following the instructions provided with tool.
2. 2.7L Engine - Place end of microphone probe approximately 2.54 cm (1 in.) from belt at one of the belt center span locations (1 or 2).
3. 3.5L Engine - Place end of microphone probe approximately 2.54 cm (1 in.) from belt at one of the belt center span locations (1 or 2).
4. Pluck the belt a minimum of 3 times. (Use your finger or other suitable tool) The frequency of the belt in hertz (Hz) will display on scan tool
screen. Refer to ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT TENSION CHART for belt tension specifications.
5. If tension readings (Hz) fall outside of range, inspect accessory drive belt tensioner and power steering pump pulley.
