EGR Control Solenoid: Testing and Inspection
Electric EGR Transducer (EET)
1.
Unplug the solenoid electrical connector and disconnect the vacuum lines from the solenoid.
2.
Connect a vacuum pump to the solenoid input port (opposite the electrical connection) and to the exhaust back pressure port (under the vacuum
transducer).
3.
Connect a vacuum gauge to the output port.
4.
Apply battery voltage to one terminal of the EGR solenoid and ground the other terminal. If the solenoid DOES NOT click, replace the solenoid.
5.
Using the vacuum pump, apply 15 inches of vacuum to the solenoid and transducer and check that no vacuum is read on the vacuum gauge (output
port).
6.
Disconnect the solenoid ground wire. The vacuum gauge (output port) should read the applied vacuum level of the vacuum pump.
7.
If the solenoid does not operate as outlined above, replace the solenoid.
