7. Adjust selector cable and torque adjusting screw to 55 inch lbs. (6 Nm) on all except 1982-83 models. The selector cable adjusting screw must be
properly torqued.

8. Adjust crossover cable and torque adjusting screw to 55 inch lbs. (6 Nm) on all except 1982-83 models. The crossover cable adjusting screw must
be properly torqued.
9. Remove lock pin from selector shaft housing and reinstall lock pin so long end is up in selector shaft housing.
10. Check for proper operation and reinstall console, pull-up ring, retaining nut and gearshift knob. High shift effort or gear blockage on Daytona
and Laser models, and 1985---88 Lancer and LeBaron GTS models with 5 speed manual transaxle, may be caused by improper shifter
crossover adjustment. To check crossover adjustment place selector in third gear and, with engine off, make rapid shifts between second
and third gears while applying moderate (approximately 20 lbs.) preload toward reverse/neutral position. Place selector in second gear
and make slow shifts between first and second gears while applying minimal crossover preload toward reverse/neutral position.
Obstruction or total blockage of a gear during above tests, after initial synchronizer line-up, indicates an improperly adjusted crossover
gate. Adjust crossover using the following procedure:
a. Shift transaxle into first gear. Leave transaxle in first gear throughout adjustment procedure.
b. Slide driver's seat fully rearward and remove carpet pad from left side of floor console.
c. Locate crossover adjusting screw through left side opening of console.
d. Loosen adjusting screw until shift lever is free in crossover direction.
e. Push shift lever toward reverse until lever contacts reverse lockout, then move lever away from reverse toward fifth gear approximately 1/8
inch.
f.
Hold position of shift lever and torque adjusting screw to 55 inch lbs.
g. Replace carpet, then recheck operation of shifter.
