discs and modes while listening to Rear Seat Audio. The radio must be on to use the Rear Seat Audio System. The rear audio headphone kit that is
delivered with all RBU radios includes 2 headphones, 1 remote control, 8 batteries and an instruction sheet.

Headphone interference or static may be caused by roadside powerlines or antennas, and 900 MHz cordless phones if held in close proximity to the
headphones. Also weak headphone batteries may cause static or interference.

Dealers also need to ensure that the "Rear Seat Audio Operating Instructions", which are part of the headphone kit, get passed along to the customer
and not thrown out during vehicle prep.
STEERING WHEEL AUDIO CONTROLS & POWER ACCESSORY DISPLAY
On vehicles so equipped, the steering wheel audio controls will now operate during the power accessory delay. The remainder of the power accessory
delay feature is unchanged.
TRANSMISSION
EATX - The "P" code numbers for EATX diagnostic fault codes have been changed for 2002 model year.
2.4UEATX Transmission - The 3 speed Automatic Transaxle will be phased out during the 2002 MY. The RS 2.4L will then use the 4 speed (41TE)
Electronic Automatic Transaxle (EATX). This will be a running change in the September time frame. The transmission electrical system and diagnostics
of the EATX on the 2.4L is similar to that of the existing 3.3L and 3.8L applications.
A new EATX Controller pinion factor is introduced with the 2.4L application to address the new final drive RS 2.4L / EATX combination on the
existing RS 215/70R15 tires.
The EATX Controller for the RS 2.4L application is the same part number as that of the existing RS 2002 MY 3.3L and 3.8L applications.
EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION (EGR)
The EGR and PCM software to operate the EGR was phased out during the early production of the 2002 model year. Refer to TSB 18-026-01 for
additional information.
CRUISE CONTROL SWITCHES
New cruise control switches with diagnostic resistors are used. The engine controller learns if the vehicle has speed control without the need to activate
any switch functions. The engine controller will set P code diagnostic faults if the cruise switches or associated wiring are open or shorted.
In conjunction with these new switches, the connectors at the switches have unique indexes to prevent installation in a 2001 vehicle.
Switch operating functions, features and service steps for replacement, remain unchanged.
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
A new cluster is used for the RS 2.4L EATX, which has 3 gauges (speedometer, fuel and temperature) and an electronic display (vacuum fluorescent)
PRNDL indicator. This replaces the current cluster with 3 gauges and mechanical PRNDL indicator assembly. This change eliminates the mechanical
PRNDL indicator as well as the attaching bracket to the steering column and the nut/washer used on 2001 MY RS 2.4L 3ATX.
For all RS lowline vehicles not equipped with security alarm or sentry key, the cluster has been revised to delete the tachometer. A trim plug replaces the
information center located above the cluster. This was a running change in the early October time frame, when the new cluster for the RS 2.4L EATX
became available. For RS lowline vehicles equipped with security alarm, keyless entry, or sentry key (namely Fleet and Canadian vehicles), the
tachometer cluster and message center will continue to be used.
For all RS/RG vehicles, the headlamp out warning indicator has been eliminated.
For all RS/RG vehicles, the cluster has been revised to increase the time from 5 to 10 seconds to get into "self diagnostics" mode, when the trip reset
knob is pressed. This change was made to reduce the potential for customers getting into this mode unintentionally. In addition, a self-correcting feature
allows the cluster to re-calibrate itself upon the next ignition cycle should the gauges become stuck mid-scale. This was a running change in the early
October time frame.
OVERHEAD CONSOLE
On RS highline vehicles equipped with 0/H consoles, CMTC-UGDO will now be the base console replacing the Compass/Temp version used in 2001
MY RS vehicles.
