Steering Gear: Service and Repair
Steering Gear - Removal
REMOVAL
1. Siphon the power steering fluid out of the reservoir.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.
3. Remove the front wheels.
4. Remove the stabilizer bar from the upper part of the stabilizer link See: Suspension/Stabilizer Bar/Stabilizer Link/Service and Repair/Front
Stabilizer Link - Removal.
5. Remove the outer tie rod end nuts and separate the tie rods (2) from the steering knuckles (4) using special tool C-3894-A. (1)
6. Remove the left outer tie rod end from the steering gear.
7. Remove both spring clamp plates (1) See: Suspension/Suspension Spring ( Coil / Leaf )/Service and Repair/Front/Lower Spring Clamp
Plates/Removal.
8. Remove the hold down bolt (3) for the hoses (1).
9. Remove both the high pressure and return hoses (1) from the steering gear (4)See: Power Steering/Power Steering Line/Hose/Service and
Repair/Power Steering Hoses - Removal.
10. Remove the steering shaft clamping bolt (2) from the steering gear (4).
11. Separate the universal joint from the steering gear.
