Turn the ignition key to the ON position.

Check to see that no one is inside the vehicle and then connect the negative battery cable.
8.
From the passenger side of the vehicle, turn the ignition key to the OFF position and then back to the ON position.
9.
Observe the instrument panel airbag lamp. It should go on for six to eight seconds and then go out indicating that the system is functioning
normally.
NOTE:
If the airbag lamp either fails to light, or goes on and stays on, there is a system malfunction. Refer to the appropriate Passive Restraint Diagnostic
Test Manual to diagnose and repair the problem.
C. Steering Wheel Replacement
NOTE:
Only steering wheels found with cracks, as determined by the inspection in Section A, require replacement. Very few vehicles are expected to require
steering wheel replacement.
1.
Disconnect the horn wire and speed control switch wire (if equipped).
2.
Remove the steering wheel with steering wheel puller tool C-3428B or equivalent.
3.
Position the new steering wheel on the steering column. Pull the airbag and speed control wires (if equipped) through the lower, large hole, in the
steering wheel and the horn wire through the smaller hole at the top of the steering wheel. Then align the flats on the hub of the steering wheel with
the formations on the inside of the clockspring.
4.
Install the provided steering wheel retaining nut. Tighten the nut to 45 if-lbs (61 Nm).
5.
Connect the horn wire and speed control switch wire (if equipped).
6.
Connect the clockspring squib connector to the airbag by pressing straight in on the connector. Push the connector past the secondary latch fingers
until it is fully seated into the airbag squib.
7.
Install the airbag onto the steering wheel.
8.
Install the airbag retaining nuts and tighten to 90 in-lbs (10 Nm).
9.
Turn the ignition key to the ON position.
10.
Check to see that no one is inside the vehicle and then connect the negative battery cable.
11.
From the passenger side of the vehicle, turn the ignition key to the OFF position and then back to the ON position.
12.
Observe the instrument panel airbag lamp. It should go on for six to eight seconds and then go out indicating that the system is functioning
normally.
NOTE:
If the air bag lamp either fails to light, or goes on and stays on, there is a system malfunction. Refer to the Passive Restraint Diagnostic Test Manual
to diagnose and repair the problem.
