Removal and Installation

Special Tool(s)

Remover/Installer, Cooling Hose Clamp

303-397 (24-003)

Removal

All vehicles
  1. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to:
    Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding (303-03A Engine Cooling - 1.6L Duratec-16V (Sigma), General Procedures),

    Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding (303-03D Engine Cooling - 1.6L Duratorq-TDCi (DV) Diesel, General Procedures),
    Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding (303-03F Engine Cooling - 1.8L Duratorq-TDCi (Lynx) Diesel, General Procedures),
    Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding (303-03F Engine Cooling - 1.8L Duratorq-TDCi (Lynx) Diesel, General Procedures).

  1. Remove the engine cover.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:If brake fluid comes into contact with the paintwork, rinse off the affected areas with cold water without delay.
    Detach the brake fluid reservoir from the water trap and secure it to one side.

  1. Remove the windshield wiper arm cover (if installed).

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Ensure that the windshield wiper motor is in the park position.
    Remove the windshield wiper arms.

  1. Remove the cowl grille.
    1. Detach the cowl grille clips.
    1. Remove the cowl grille from under the windshield weatherstrip.

  1. Remove the wiper linkage bolt.

  1. Remove the bulkhead extension.
    • Pull the bulkhead extension out of the clips.
Vehicles with 1.8L diesel engine
  1. Remove the right-hand headlamp assembly.
    For additional information, refer to: Headlamp Assembly (417-01 Exterior Lighting, Removal and Installation).

  1. Disconnect the boost pressure sensor connector.

  1. Detach the intercooler outlet pipe from the intercooler.

  1. Detach the intercooler outlet pipe from the throttle housing.

  1. Detach the bracket for the intercooler outlet pipe from the radiator.

  1. Remove the intercooler outlet pipe.
    1. Detach the fuel pipe bracket from the threaded pin.
    1. Remove the nut.
    1. Remove the outlet pipe.
All vehicles

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Mark installation position of front engine mount bracket with respect to wheelhouse.
    Remove front engine mount bracket retaining bolts.
    • Pull the engine forwards.
  1. Raise the vehicle.
    For additional information, refer to: Lifting (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).

  1. Remove the intake hose for the fuel fired booster heater from the booster heater.

  1. Detach the exhaust pipe for the fuel fired booster heater from the booster heater.
  1. Lower the vehicle.

  1. Remove the fuel fired booster heater bolt.

  1. Unclip the fuel fired booster heater from the bracket and pull it forwards.

  1. Unclip the wiring harness connector for the fuel fired booster heater from the bracket and disconnect.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Seal off the coolant hose and the fuel fired booster heater to prevent dirt ingress.
    Detach the left-hand coolant hose from the fuel-fired booster heater using the special tool.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Seal off the coolant hose and the fuel fired booster heater to prevent dirt ingress.
    Detach the right-hand coolant hose from the fuel-fired booster heater using the special tool.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Seal off the fuel hose and the fuel fired booster heater to prevent dirt ingress.
    Detach the fuel hose for the fuel-fired booster heater from the booster heater.

  1. Remove the fuel fired booster heater.

Installation

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Ensure that the front engine mount bracket is in the original installation position.
    Install the components in the reverse order.
  1. Check the angle of the wiper arms to the windscreen.
