Safety Recall 97S63 - Certain 1992-1997 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor and Taxi Package vehicles equipped with Heavy Duty Suspension -
Hood Striker Plate Replacement
Affected Vehicles
1992-1997 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor and Taxi Package vehicles equipped with Heavy Duty Suspension built through October 7, 1996.
Reasons For Recall
On some of these vehicles the hood latch striker plate, over time, may either wear, or detach from the hood. This condition is caused by relative motion
between the hood and the radiator support which is unique to vehicles with the heavy duty suspension and police/taxi driving cycle. Should this condition
occur, the hood may open unexpectedly while the vehicle is being operated. This could reduce the driver's visibility, which could potentially result in a
vehicle crash.
Service Action
To correct this condition, dealers are to install a revised design hood striker.
