Parking Brake Control: Service and Repair
Removal
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Fully release parking brake.
3. Raise vehicle partially on hoist.
NOTE: A metal tool can be fabricated as shown, and will facilitate the removal and installation of the control assembly.
4. With the aid of an assistant, pull down on the parking brake cable, so that the fabricated metal tool can be positioned between the take up reel
spring stud and the mounting bracket. This will aid in disconnecting from the reel.
WARNING: KEEP FINGERS AWAY FROM REEL MECHANISM WHILE TOOL IS IN PLACE.
5. Separate parking brake control cable from rear cables at the connector.
6. Lower vehicle.
