About the E-150
The E-150 is the half-ton version of Ford's full-size van, sold as the Econoline from 1961 and renamed E-Series for 1999. From 1975 the van sat on a body-on-frame chassis shared in many parts with the F-Series pickups, and it was the best-selling full-size van in the United States from 1980 until passenger and cargo vans gave way to the Transit in 2014.
What these manuals cover
- 1982–1985 (third generation): the 4.9-litre straight-six and the 5.0 and 5.8-litre V8s.
- 1997–2008: the 4.2-litre V6 replaced the six, and the 4.6 and 5.4-litre Triton V8s replaced the 5.0 and 5.8. For 2004 the V6 was dropped and the 4.6 V8 became standard.
Tip: the van shared its engines with the F-Series pickups of the same years, so the F-150 manuals are a useful second reference for engine work.
