Piston: Service and Repair
DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove the connecting rod bearings from the connecting rod and caps.
NOTE: Connecting rod bolts and nuts cannot be reused. Mark the position of the parts, so they can be installed in their original position.
2. Use Piston Pin Tool to press the piston pin out of the connecting rod and piston assembly.
NOTE: The piston pin bore of a connecting rod and the diameter of the pin must be within specification.
3. Remove the connecting rod from the piston.
4. Clean and inspect the connecting rod and piston.
ASSEMBLY
1. Install the large chamfered side of the connecting rod bearing bore facing toward the engine front on the RH bank connecting rod and facing
toward the rear of the engine on LH bank connecting rod.
NOTE: Apply a light coat of clean SAE 50W engine oil or equivalent meeting Ford specifications WSE-M2C908-A1 and API SO to all parts.
Install the piston in the connecting rod with the cylinder number side of the rod and the indentation notch in the piston on the same side.
