About the Explorer Sport and Sport Trac

This group covers two Explorer spin-offs. The Explorer Sport was the three-door Explorer, built until 2003 after the five-door had been redesigned. The Explorer Sport Trac, sold from 2001 to 2010 (with no 2006 model), was a crew-cab pickup that shared its chassis and much of its body with the Explorer. It was Ford's first mid-size pickup and was built at Louisville Assembly in Kentucky.

What these manuals cover

• Explorer Sport (2001–2002): the 4.0-litre SOHC V6, in 2WD and 4WD.
• Sport Trac, first generation (2001–2005): the 4.0 V6, including a flex-fuel version.
• Sport Trac, second generation (2007–2010): rebuilt on the fourth-generation Explorer chassis with independent rear suspension, and offered with the 4.0 V6 or a 4.6-litre V8.

Tip: both are Explorers underneath, so the Explorer manuals with the same engine and year are a good second reference.
