Ford Explorer workshop manuals
Ford Explorer at a glance: 25 manuals, covering 1991 to 2011 models, with engines from 2.0 to 5.0 litres.
About the Explorer
Launched in 1990 as a 1991 model, the Explorer replaced the Bronco II and became one of America's most popular SUVs. The first two generations shared their chassis with the Ranger pickup and came as three-door and five-door models. The 2002 redesign gave it a purpose-built frame, and the 2011 model moved to a car-style unibody.
What these manuals cover
- 1991–2001: the 4.0-litre V6, shared with the Ranger and Aerostar, and from 1996 a 5.0-litre V8.
- 2002–2010: the 4.0 V6 and a 4.6-litre Modular V8 that replaced the 5.0. Flex-fuel versions of the V6 are included.
- 2011: the new unibody Explorer with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four (EcoBoost) and front-wheel drive.
Tip: the Mercury Mountaineer is the Explorer's twin from the late 1990s, and the early three-door was also sold as the Mazda Navajo. For the three-door Explorer Sport and the Sport Trac pickup, see Explorer Sport.
