About the F-250 4WD

The four-wheel-drive F-250 is the three-quarter-ton F-Series pickup. Through the 1980s and early 1990s it shared its design with the F-150, with heavier springs, axles and engines. For 1999 it moved to the new Super Duty range with its own frame, and the Super Duty F-250 also became the basis of the Ford Excursion SUV.

What these manuals cover

• 1982–1994: the 4.9-litre straight-six, the 5.0, 5.8 and 7.5-litre petrol V8s, and the International diesels: the 6.9, the 7.3 from 1988 and the turbocharged 7.3 of 1994.
• 1997–1999: the new "LD" light-duty F-250 built on the F-150, with the 4.2 V6 and 4.6 and 5.4 V8s, alongside the older "HD" truck with the 7.5 V8.
• Super Duty (1999–2009): the 5.4-litre V8 and the 6.8-litre V10, including a CNG version.

Tip: the Excursion is built on this truck's chassis and adds the Super Duty diesels. The F-250 2WD manuals cover the same engines without the front drive.
