Removal and Installation

Removal

WARNING:
WARNING:Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may ignite. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section  414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.
  1. Release the fuel system pressure. For additional information, refer to Section  310-00 Fuel System - General Information.

  1. Disconnect the idle air control (IAC) valve electrical connector.

  1. Remove the IAC valve.

  1. Remove the accelerator cable adjustment retaining clip.

  1. Detach the accelerator cable from the retaining bracket.

  1. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle body.

  1. Remove the intake air resonator.

  1. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe.

  1. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hoses.

  1. Remove the accelerator cable retaining bracket from the intake manifold.

  1. Disconnect the spark plug wires from the spark plugs.

  1. Detach the spark plug wires from the retaining clips and position them to one side.

  1. Disconnect the throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connector.

  1. Disconnect the fuel injector electrical connectors.

  1. Remove the fuel injector wiring harness retaining screws.

  1. Detach the fuel injector wiring harness electrical connector cover.

  1. Disconnect the fuel injector wiring harness electrical connector and position it to one side.

  1. Disconnect the vacuum line from the fuel pressure regulator.

  1. Remove the fuel injection supply manifold retaining bolts.

  1. Disconnect the fuel injection supply and return lines from the fuel injection supply manifold. For additional information, refer to Section  310-00 Fuel System - General Information.

  1. Remove the fuel injection supply manifold.
    1. Detach the fuel injectors from the intake manifold.
    1. Remove the fuel injection supply manifold.

  1. Remove the fuel injectors.
    • Discard the O-ring seals.

Installation
  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Using a suitable engine oil, lubricate the O-ring seals before installing.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Install new fuel injector O-ring seals.
    To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  1. Adjust the accelerator cable. For additional information, refer to Section  310-02 Acceleration Control.
