The engine management system consists of a powertrain control module (PCM), a number of sensors, switches and an idle air control (IAC) valve. The sensors and switches supply the PCM with input signals which relate to engine operating conditions and the IAC valve responds to output signals from the PCM. These output signals are based on the evaluated input signals which are compared with calibrated data tables or maps before the output signal is generated.
