Heating and Ventilation - Heater Control Valve Fiesta 1996 (08/1995-02/2002)
Removal and Installation

Removal

  1. Standard preparatory measures
    • Make a note of the radio keycode.
    • Make a note of the preset radio stations.

  1. CAUTION:
    CAUTION:Disconnect the battery negative lead.
    Detach the coolant expansion tank.
    • Remove the single screw.
    • Unhook the coolant expansion tank from its bracket.

  1. Remove the bulkhead extension.
    • Remove the rubber seal.
    • Unclip the cover of the central junction box (CJB).
    • Remove the single screw.

  1. Remove the bulkhead extension (continued).
    1. Remove the bolts.
    1. Disconnect the plug.

  1. Remove the bulkhead extension (continued).
    • Remove the single screw.

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Plug the heat exchanger.
    Remove the heater control valve.
    1. Disconnect the plug from the heater control valve.
    1. Undo the four clamps and detach the coolant hoses.

Installation

All Vehicles

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Only carry out steps 1 to 4 if there is a regular knocking noise coming from the fascia crash padding when the heater control is set to between Min and Max.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Coolant will escape.
    Remove the left-hand heater coolant hose (shown without refrigerant line).
    1. Disconnect the plug.
    1. Remove the left-hand heater coolant hose.
LHD vehicles

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not allow the coolant hose clamps to touch the bodywork.
    Install a new left-hand heater coolant hose.
    • Route the heater coolant hose and install the coolant hose clamps.
RHD vehicles

  1. NOTE:
    NOTE:Position of the heater coolant hose. The coolant hose must be routed below the connections on the heater control valve and around the refrigerant lines.
    NOTE:
    NOTE:Do not allow the coolant hose clamps to touch the bodywork.
    Install a new left-hand heater coolant hose.
    • Route the heater coolant hose and install the coolant hose clamps.
All vehicles

  1. Renew the heater control valve insulation.
  1. Install the remaining components in reverse order.
  1. Bleed the cooling system. For additional information, refer to Section  303-03 Engine Cooling.
  1. Connect the battery negative lead.
    • Enter the radio keycode.
    • Reprogram the pre-set radio stations.
    • Reset the clock.
    • Carry out a road test to enable the PCM to collect data.
  1. Check the operation of the heater.
